Macy Gray

Macy Gray is an American R&B and soul singer-songwriter, musician, record producer and actress. She is also known for her distinctive raspy voice and a singing style heavily influenced by Billie Holiday.

During her ongoing and prolific singing career, Macy has released ten studio albums and received five Grammy Award nominations, winning one.

Macy also has an impressive list of film credits, having appeared in a number of blockbuster and indie films including Training Day (featuring Denzel Washington), Spider-Man (featuring Toby Maguire), Scary Movie 3, Lackawanna Blues, Idlewild (featuring Patti Labelle, Terrance Howard and Andre Benjamin), For Colored Girls (a Tyler Perry film featuring Whoopi Goldberg, Janet Jackson and Kerry Washington) and The Paperboy (featuring Matthew McConaughey and John Cusack).

In response to an increasing number of incidents involving police officers killing unarmed people of color around the country, Macy founded MyGood.org, a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting the families of victims of police brutality. Extremely important to Macy is the mental health of the families who experience these tragedies. Macy watched her aunt and uncle struggle after their son was killed in a bar fight, and she has seen first-hand what happens to many of these families—financially, mentally, emotionally and physically.

As a board member of the Oscar Grant Foundation, Macy provides guidance on mental health awareness, law enforcement equity training and fundraising.
