Founder and CEO:

Wanda Johnson

Hello, my name is Wanda Johnson, and I am the proud Founder and CEO of the Oscar Grant Foundation. I established this foundation to honor the life and legacy of my son, Oscar Grant III, whose story became a catalyst for change across our nation.

Out of unimaginable pain came a purpose — to transform tragedy into a movement that promotes education, mental health, and social justice through advocacy and empowerment. The Oscar Grant Foundation was created to turn grief into growth, fostering healing and hope while building stronger, more compassionate communities.

As a mother, educator, and advocate, I’ve dedicated my life to amplifying voices too often silenced and to empowering our youth to recognize that they are powerful beyond measure. My journey has taken me from classrooms to courtrooms, from community vigils to national stages — but wherever I go, my message remains the same: love is stronger than hate, and change begins with us.

Every day, I am inspired by the resilience of our community and the strength we find in one another. The work we do at the Oscar Grant Foundation is not only in memory of Oscar — it is in honor of every life touched by injustice and every family determined to heal and rebuild.

Together, we can continue to inspire compassion, accountability, and transformation, ensuring that Oscar’s legacy — and the lessons his life has taught the world — will continue to light the path toward a more just, loving, and equitable future.

With love and faith,
– Wanda Johnson
